Restorations
Restorations or “fillings” are used to restore a tooth that has decay, is worn, or has been broken. Traditionally, you can use amalgam or “silver fillings”, but composite or “tooth colored” resin restorations are now typically used to restore teeth back to their original shape.
Our practice only uses composite tooth-colored filling material.
Are amalgam (silver-colored) fillings safe?
Amalgam fillings have been used to preserve decaying teeth for over a century. Concern over the presence of mercury in the fillings has been evaluated by the FDA, ADA, and the National Institute of Health; they all confirmed the safety of amalgam fillings. However, we only use the composite tooth colored filling material.
